The 17-year-old prevailed in an hour and 36 minutes to set up a clash with either sixth seed Elena Rybakina or former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.

An uncharacteristically lacklustre Swiatek was broken after a double-fault early in the opening set, which proved crucial with Andreeva holding out to draw first blood.

The five-time major winner responded with an early break in the second set to lead 3-1.

But Andreeva hit back with a vengeance, reeling off the next five games to book her place in the semi-finals.
